Spertus, Chicago's center for Jewish learning and culture, heeft zondag 4 november 2012 in het kader van de zgn. “Solomon Goldman Lecture Series,” David Biale, hoogleraar Jewish History aan de University of California, in huis die zal spreken over “Not in the Heavens: The Tradition of Jewish Secular Thought.”
Uiteraard zie ik het niet als mijn taak alle lezingen overal ter wereld hier te melden, maar ik vind de bijgeleverde illustratie wel aardig die duidelijk maakt dat Spinoza en Einstein niet in de Hemel moeten worden gezocht. De wervingstekst luidt:
“Over the last three centuries, thinkers from Spinoza to Einstein have established a distinctive tradition of Jewish secular thought. Yet secularism did not necessarily mean a total rupture from Jewish religious tradition.
