Nadat ik in het vorige blog, “Op zoek naar Spinoza scholar Richard Mason,”
heb laten zien hoe ik deze informatie op het spoor kwam, neem ik hier het ‘in
memoriam’ over dat zijn collega en vriend John Naughton over hem schreef. Het
geeft een duidelijk beeld van deze bijzondere Spinoza geleerde, over wie Herman
De Dijn schreef: “Mason succeeds in presenting Spinoza’s thought in its
extraordinary simplicity and at the same time this study [Spinoza: Logic, Knowledge and Religion] is a channel for Mason to
question the major tenets of the standard analytical tradition. It is clear that
this is not only a book for students of Spinoza but also an intervention in
