The Collected Works of Spinoza, Volume II, edited and translated by Edwin M. Curley, waarvan Volume I in 1985 bij Princeton University Press verscheen, en waar door velen lang naar werd uitgekeken, zou (volgens Amazon) gepland staan om uit te komen in december 2015.
De uitgever vermeldt alleen nog deel I.
Eerder berichtte ik (cf. blog van mei 2011) dat het volgens een medewerker van de uitgever in het voorjaar van 2012 zou verschijnen, maar later werd dit weer ingetrokken en kon geen datum meer worden genoemd.
Het zou goed zijn als deze vertaling na 30 jaar inderdaad zou worden voltooid.
Curley zelf schrijft op zijn website (op 'n ongedateerde pagina): "Currently I'm working on the second and final volume of The Collected Works, which I hope to finish soon. (Strangers to my life should be warned that I've often had that hope in the past, and it hasn't happened yet.). [..] Why has the edition taken so long? The main reason – apart from the sheer difficulty of the task – is that I've permitted myself to do other things along the way. Usually my excuse was that the distracting project was related in some way to Spinoza. Not only would it be interesting in itself, but working on it would give me a better understanding of Spinoza, and make me a better translator of his work. This is the rationale (rationalization?) for my Descartes Against the Skeptics (1978), my edition of Hobbes' Leviathan (1994), my essays on Spinoza's Theological-Political Treatise, and the work I've been doing lately on the rise of religious liberty in the early modern period."
