Allan Nadler heeft vandaag een blog op The Jewish Daily Forward (an American national Jewish newspaper): Spinoza Para Bobos (Spinoza For Dummies). Als u zijn naam in het zoekvenster ingeeft, ziet u dat hij al vaker in een blog voorkwam.
Aan het slot lijkt het dat deze rabbijn (die ergens nog familie is van Steven Nadler) terugkomt op wat hij bij een YIVO-herdenking van het 350e jaar van de ban in 2006 zei (uit ’t hoofd geciteerd, maar op YouTube te horen): de herem is het beste dat Spinoza is overkomen. Nu lijkt hij dat anders te zien, want de laatste alinea luidt:
"Spinoza left standing no pillar of traditional Jewish or Christian theology. Given his brazen attack on Scripture and on ecclesiastical authority; his mockery of the “madness” of supernatural religious faith and his insistence on defining God out of any theologically meaningful existence, it is little surprise that, despite various efforts to do so, his herem, or excommunication, has never been rescinded by any traditional rabbinical authorities."
